Everyday English Expressions

Ok- ready or not- here we go. I have collected literally hundreds of colloquial English expressions over the last several years.  I think that I began sometime around 2006 or '07.  I've had the habit over that period of carrying around a cheap spiral notebook along with me wherever I go.  I rarely travel without it.  I take it on walks, to church, on trips, just about everywhere I am going, my notebook follows.  And I have it with me during the mornings and evenings when I am reading or watching TV or movies.

So it's also been my habit when I hear one of these "sayings", that I write it down in my notebook.  I've had a special place for them, on the inside cardboard covers.  Usually by the time I'm done collecting two pages of them, I'm ready to ditch my notebook and use a new one.  It's been a pretty good system for me.  Not high-tech, just scribbling or jotting down a phrase whenever I come across one.  And I have come across these sayings at the most unique or odd moments- while watching an old episode of The Andy Griffith Show, or of Seinfeld, or while having a casual conversation with a friend.

A word about my system.. on this page, I list all of these expressions, in the same random order that I collected them originally.  Then on successive pages, I list the same expressions.. but this time, in either ALPHABETICAL or TOPICAL order.   Hope this will be helpful and not confusing to you as you read them over.  As you move from page to page, you will be reading the same phrases, only in a different order or sequence.

That being said, as you read over these, especially the alphabetical listing, you may think of one that I haven't yet collected.  I welcome you to write a comment and include your suggestion of a new phrase.  More than likely, I'll be glad to include it in my list.  If you'd like to be aware or notified when I add more sayings to my list, you can subscribe at the bottom of a page by simply clicking on "Subscribe to: Posts (Atom)".

I'm sure that this particular page on my site will NOT be for everyone.  Just like anything, it may be my passion or interest, but not yours.  If so, feel free to by-pass this page and find another one that is more to your liking.   However, to all of the word geeks out there.. and to all of my English teachers of the past.. I dedicate this site.

Hope you enjoyIf you take a liking, you may follow updates by clicking on "Subscribe to: Posts (Atom)" at the bottom of this.. and every other page.  THANKS !
